What is Reiki?

Reiki is a Japanese energy healing modality that originated in Japan in the early 20th century. The word "Reiki" comes from two Japanese words: "Rei" meaning "universal" and "Ki" meaning "life force energy." In a Reiki session, a trained Reiki practitioner channels this universal energy to promote relaxation, relieve stress, and support the body's natural healing process.

 

How to prepare for a Distance Reiki session?

Here are a few simple things you can do to prepare for your session to get the most out of it:

Check your email: Keep an eye out for an email from me to schedule our session. We will find a day and time that works best for your schedule. The great thing about Distance Reiki is you can do it from the comfort of your own home making it easy to fit into a busy schedule. 

Hydrate: Drink plenty of water before and after your session. Reiki helps to release toxins and balance your energy, and staying hydrated supports this process.

Have an open mind: You don’t need to “believe” in Reiki for it to work but being open to the experience allows the energy to flow more freely.

Communicate with your practitioner: Before the session begins we will discuss anything specific you’d like to work on—whether it’s stress, anxiety, emotional healing, or physical discomfort. We can also work together to set your intention if you are struggling to come up with one.

Clear your schedule: Make sure you will have 45 minutes to an hour of uninterrupted time so you can relax into the reiki energy. 


What happens during a Distance Reiki session?

Distance Reiki sessions typically last 45-60 minutes. Here’s what you can generally expect:

Initial Conversation: Your practitioner will call you on the phone and ask a few questions about any areas of concern you may have. This helps them facilitate a session based on your needs. You will also discuss what to expect from the session. They might also pull an oracle card for you to offer you deeper insight.

Settle In: After our initial phone call, you’ll be invited to lie down in a comfortable spot such as your bed or a recliner. During this time you will close your eyes and relax focusing on your intention, sensations in your body, or your breath.

Feeling the Energy Flow: You may feel sensations such as warmth, coolness, tingling, or no sensations at all as the Reiki energy flows through you. It’s not uncommon for clients to feel deep relaxation, fall asleep, or have an emotional release.

Intuitive Insights: After your session is complete you will receive a call back to take a moment to discuss any insights they gathered during the session, though Reiki sessions are not diagnostic. Your practitioner might offer guidance on how to continue being supported by the Reiki energy.

 

What to do after a Distance Reiki session?

The effects of Reiki can last for hours, days, or even weeks after a session. Here are things you can do to support this process:

Hydrate: Drink plenty of water to help flush out released toxins and support your energetic clearing.

Take It Easy: Avoid overscheduling the day of or the day after your appointment. 

Reflect: Reiki healing often continues to work long after the session has ended. Many people report feeling more grounded, peaceful, and balanced, while others might feel tired or emotional as they release energy blockages and integrate the healing energies. Just notice without judgement. This is all part of the process. 

Journal: Some people find it helpful to journal after a session to process any insights or emotions. This also allows you to notice shifts and changes between sessions.

Follow-Up Sessions: The optimal timing for your next Reiki healing session depends on your individual needs and goals for your energetic and physical health. For acute issues or during times of stress, weekly sessions may be beneficial. For maintenance and ongoing wellness support, many people find that sessions every 2-4 weeks work well. After your initial treatment, pay attention to your healing reactions and how long you feel the benefits lasting.
